As the Academic year for the CBSE Schools is from April to April, we started our new Academic year 2019 – 2020 with much hope and expectation on April 16, for the students of 1st to 7th Grade. After the summer vacation in May, the school re-opened for regular classes on 3rd June 2019 from Ito 7th Grade.
During the summer vacation, the staff had four orientation programmes as part of their empowerment. On May 27, they attended a training programme on Health and Hygiene at Nutritious centre at Marthandam. On 28th May, the teachers attended a seminar on Personal Development by Fr. Nelson. On 29th May, a seminar on Spirituality and Personal life was organized for the teachers for which Fr. Felix Alexander was the resource person. On 30th May, the staff again gathered for a planning session. To invoke God’s blessing upon our students as well as upon our institution, we had holy Eucharistic celebration on June 10th presided over by the Most Rev. Peter Remigius, Bishop emeritus.
The school functions from 9 Am to 3.45 Pm for the students and from 8.50 Am to 4.30Pm for the staff. The last period is called “Zero Period” during which the class teachers note the assignments and information to the parents concerning their children. We begin the school with the hoisting of the national flag and assembly on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and on the other days with simple prayer. The assembly is conducted by the students led by their class teacher. Every day, the birth days of the children and the staff are remembered with birthday song. From 9-15 to 9-45 am catechism is taught to the catholic students and value education to the non-catholic students. In order to facilitate the teachers to be faith formatters, the Correspondent gives training to the teachers on “Catechism of the catholic Church” every Monday evening after the school hour.

Students are provided with opportunities to learn through different methods of teaching. As the academic year has only two terms according to the CBSE norms, we conduct two “Periodic assessment” tests before each term Examination. We have introduced “Library Period” from this academic year. The children are led to the library by a teacher where they are given books of their choice and are asked to read during the entire period. This is to create a deep interest in reading. They are also allowed to borrow books from the library so that they can read them in their leisure time at home.Though the medium of language is English, importance is also given to the mother tongue Tamil and we have two well qualified Tamil teachers to teach Tamil. Besides, Hindi is taught from grade I onwards. We have started to tech foreign language such as French for the grade V –VII taught by the correspondent and Italian for the grade III and IV by the Principal. We also have regular communicative English classes to our students.
Election of the students’ Council was held on June 26, 2019. “Mariyan Leaders are the role models who inspire the followers and motivate them to reach the pinnacle of the success”. Investiture ceremony of these leaders took place on July 16, 2019. This ceremony signifies the reliance and confidence that the school consigns in the newly invested office bearers. Donning the mantle of accountability, they also pledge to bestow their duties, to the best of their abilities. It was a day filled with pride and gratification for the students for being elected at different posts by the school council. The presence of Fr. Gino Jose Prakash Mathew, the former correspondent, as the chief Guest added more colour to the function.

Besides the academic curricular activities we offer opportunities to develop the talents of the student through extra-curricular activities. The school offers classes for dance, music, karate, yoga and drawing. These are taught on Wednesdays. Yoga club was inaugurated the World Yoga Day, on June 21st 2019. The management believes that, the collaboration of the parent’s strength and support for the development of the school. Though we had periodical meetings of the parents in the past years, we wanted to make it an official body by forming PTA with office bearers and executive members. The management appointed 10 executive members and from them four were elected as office bearers. The PTA executive committee is working shoulder to shoulder with the management for the growth of the school. The first PTA meeting was held on June 14, 2019.
